Secondary applicant suffering from rare condition - Repeat request for Ministerial Intervention satisfied
The primary applicants, the mother and father, are citizens of Bangladesh. Their eldest daughter was born with omphalocele/exomphalos, a rare condition where the internal organs are located outside of the body. A medical treatment visa was granted to the family, to enable the secondary applicant to access surgery and treatment for her condition. When this visa expired, the family was required to depart Australia and return to Bangladesh. The family did not return to Bangladesh, attempted to apply for a protection visa, were unsuccessful, and were unlawful for a period of time in Australia.
We assisted at the Ministerial Intervention stage and met the repeat request criteria.
This case is currently pending with the Minister.
This case has received media attention, and has been reported in the newspaper.
