Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil confirmed she had received the report from former public service chief Martin Parkinson and was preparing to make some or all of its content public ahead of next month’s federal budget.
According to Australian Financial Review,
- Ms O’Neil is seeking structural reform of the system and the government is working to consolidate hundreds of visa subcategories to create a simpler, more business-friendly process
- The global talent visa and the business innovation and investment program may be overhauled or scrapped.
- The backlog of unprocessed visas has been reduced to about 570,000 from almost 1 million
